South Dakota House makes abortion a felony -- no exception for a woman's health, rape or incest.
Aberdeen News.com reported today that the South Dakota House passed “so-called ''trigger statute” legislation that would make abortion a felony, with an exception only for the life of a woman but not for her health or in cases of rape or incest, if Roe v. Wade is overturned. Similar dormant laws have been passed in other states. Legislators overwhelmingly rebuffed efforts to make exceptions for the health of women and those who are victims of rape or incest. HB1249, sent 54-16 to the state Senate, would make illegal abortions a felony punishable by up to two years in jail or prison for those who do abortions or who prescribe any drugs that would abort a fetus.
